Ok...I know...totally superficial question! But, I am really curious about this one because I have been called "thick" by men recently and I don't consider myself to be thick now (maybe when I was 18~ see pic).
So, men of IRM...what is your definition of thick?

Being Thick, means you don't need to eat a sandwich, but also that you are not morbidly obese. Thick, in the complimentary sense, is the happy middle ground between a girl that could be a skeleton model, or one that could give Rosie Odonnel a run for her money.

like I said before, you can ask 10 men and get 10 different answers...
I want to add that many times a woman can be slim up top (arms, waist, torso, etc.) and be considered "thick" because her backside and thighs (basically everything below the waist) are proportionally bigger compared to her top...
beyonce could be considered "thick" to some men because she has wide and shapely "child bearing" hips, but I wouldn't necessarily consider her thick, now treasure on the other hand, she's definitely "thick"...

Dublin I think you are being overly sensitive...I appreciate your comments & compliment. I thought you might want to know the correct spelling for future use of the term. Though I did initially request responses from "the men of IRM"...certainly all are welcome to put their two cents in. This is a public site after all.

Ok BigSam...thanks for clarifying. I agree that Beyonce is far from thick! Considering that the camera adds about 10-20 pounds she may be bordering anorexia! Now Queen Latifah is thick by MY definition...now not when she was a little heavier.

I would like to simple add that we black men, in great numbers, perfer women with meat on their bones. sacred, I would go out with you in a heartbeat. I would also take you home to meet mom -- if I had one. You are not fat, just fine.

Thick in my opinion can be fat, big boned, or big and beautiful? If you ask the men who said it, they should tell you what they refer to "thick" as? In many ways, "thick" has been referred to by my friends as big and beautiful. Usually a guy will say" she's thick!" They usually are looking twice like at the fatty "booty," and her ? You guys know what I'm saying? If a guy is saying "thick" abou you, if you got those two things like booty and that men drool over, then he is saying "thick" as a positive thing usually concerning a sexy body feature you have? Hope thaT helps? Men like women have their lingo codes as well.

BEING A AFR. AMERICAN,USUALLY WHEN A AFRICAN AMER. MALE CALLS YOU THICK IT MEANS THAT YOUR NOT SKINNY AND NOT FAT. SORTA LIKE IN BETWEEN. OR THICK IN THE RIGHT PLACES. ITS USUALLY USED IN A GOOD WAY. BEYONCE (THE SINGER) WOULD BE WHAT YOU CALL THICK. NOT BEING A LESBIAN, SACREDOSE, I THINK YOU LOOK GOOD. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A MAN WOULD WANT A WOMEN THATS JUST SKIN AND BONES.

Dublin...I am familiar with BigSam's prior posts and not so kind replies to certain women on this site...that is why I mad the comment about his tact (that was intended with a hint of sarcasm). Also, for future reference, ther term is "zaftig". Also, I am very familiar with your difinition and how women view thick as your definition is similar to mine...and I have after dated (and even married) black men for almost 20 years so I have heard this term MANY times before. My reason for the post was to ascertain their particular formula for determining when a woman is thick, as a few generously provided.

Don't worry BigSam...you're not breaking my heart...I am well aware of the fact that I am fat. Not as fat as I was, which is why I was checking because I have lost some weight and all of the sudden men are referring to me as "thick"...however that is not how I would describe myself. And in addition, being fat is nothing to be heartbroken over if a person is ok with it. And luckily for every size of woman there is a man who loves it!
I do appreciate your tact though;)

Sacredrose, The term may mean different things to different people, but, I've always understood it as first a compliment; When describing a woman as being ample in all the right places without being overly heavy. Thick can also refer to someone who is slow about getting the meaning or understanding of a subject, statement, etc.,. In otherwords not dumb, but, gullible. I'm sure the desired intention of calling you thick was a compliment. It is often said, and to some point founded that black men prefer thicker, heavier or fuller figured women. This is also seen in other ethnic minorities and economically challenged whites too. Truth is women of all sizes and shapes are appealing to all real men. People of the sort mentioned are simply more honest and straightforward about what is appealing to them.
